EXCERPT

“JAL VORN, YOU SIGNED a contract, when you came to work for us. The contract specified that your work site would be planet Paranda. Unfortunately, your name was mistakenly placed upon a list of employees to be assigned to Blue Star World. Thus, you are required, under the law, to report to Blue Star World. There’s nothing that you can do, there’s nothing that we can do.”

“There’s nothing practical that I can do to avoid being forcibly assigned to Blue Star World, that much is true. I do have a lawyer working on gaining for me compensation for violation of my signed labor contract. Assuming that I survive the unknown health risks of Blue Star World, I’ll return to Paranda a very wealthy man.”

“Jal Vorn, your attitude will get you in trouble, if you’re not careful.”

“I’m as careful as I can be. That’s why I insisted upon a written labor contract, before I signed in with your company. Your company has violated my labor contract. You might consult with your legal people to find out what the monetary penalties are, for such a violation.

“Only time will see what, if any, penalties are assessed.”

“I have no real option, but to wait.”

“I note that you have asked for and received a waiver to allow you to transport to Blue Star World, a pair of rapier swords. Tell me, what do you intend to do with the swords?”

“After I graduated from third school, I won the Agorean National Fencing Championship, Rapier Division. I was to represent Agorea in the Planet Games. I was denied the prize that I won, because the powers that be felt that I was too young to represent Agorea. That matter is now being settled in court. In the meantime, I work out with my swords, my rapiers, so that I can stay in shape to compete at a planet level.”

“Yes, I read your justification. I recommended against allowing you to transport your swords to Blue Star World. The various governmental departments, here on Paranda also voted to refuse you permission. However, Blue Star World is governed by our military allies, the Firver. The Firver allowed your petition.

“Yes, the Firver allowed my petition and yes, I’m taking my swords, my rapiers, with me to Blue Star World.”

I fail to see the benefit, but you do have a legal right, at least under Firver law.”

“It all seems to come down to matters of law, doesn’t it?”

“You have a lawyer, the company has any number of lawyers. We’ll see who prevails, in the long run.”

“That’s up to you. I have had my lawyer file my legal claims. I can now only wait.”

“You can wait on Blue Star World.”

There being no useful answer, I turn and walk out of the room.
